Literary Friday: Battlefield of the Mind

I am currently reading about the mind again. This time I chose Battlefield of the Mind. It's amazing to me how we can make ourselves believe a lie and it starts with our own minds. You have to be careful about what you let the mind think about.

You can make yourself happy or sad just with your own thoughts. Here are a few more books I have read about the mind.

One of my favorites is As A Man Thinketh by James Allen published in 1902. I have a vintage leather bound copy. The mind guides our footsteps as we progress along the pathway of life.

Update: No Clothes and Book Shopping

Okay, I didn't make it through this month. I was out with my husband and I just happen to glance through the racks. I found this Black on Black Hounds-tooth design suit by LeSuit. It has a coat with belt and skirt. It is a classic and will always be stylish. I couldn't let this one slip away.
Although I've made a purchase I am going to continue to see how many days out of a year I can go without  purchasing an item. Hopefully it will be less than 5.
Still going strong without purchasing books, but I am making a list of things I want to read.

Literary Friday: To-Read & What's Next

Art @ Home

I just finished Last Night I Dreamed of Peace. This was on my to-read list. I first heard about this story on NPR's book radio. It was quite interesting to hear the account of Vietnam War from a Vietnamese who did not like the Americans. I found it quite interesting that the young lady was a trained surgeon during this time of war.
At the age of twenty-four, Dang Thuy Tram volunteered to serve as a doctor in a National Liberation Front (Viet Cong) battlefield hospital in the Quang Ngai Province. Two years later she was killed by American forces not far from where she worked. Written between 1968 and 1970, her diary speaks poignantly of her devotion to family and friends, the horrors of war, her yearning for her high school sweetheart, and her struggle to prove her loyalty to her country. (Goodreads Review)

I don't know what to read next. I have a book called Keeping a Journal You Love by Sheila Bender. I've kept a journal since my high school days. I'm hoping she'll give me some pointers on what to do when you don't feel like writing.

My other choice is Clariel by Garth Nix. It is his 4th book for the Abhorsen Series. I love this series: Sabriel, Lirael, and The Abhorsen. I did not know that he had written a 4th book. The stories take me far away from Georgia and deliver into a world of good and evil, life and death. And the best thing about this series is that he writes and conveys all without profanity. Sabriel is one of my go-to-books. It never fails me, even though I know the story I still get excited.

Daily Face: February 11th

My husband and I went to an estate auction today. If I only had a mansion. I could fill it up with all the beautiful antiques. If you are young and only have a few dollars to spend go to the auction and by good quality furniture, instead of the cheap press board.

My Progress: No Buying of Clothes and Books

I have been too busy to think about buying more clothes. I'm not really a mall shopper either which helps me stick to my goal.

Books on the other hand is another matter. I can never have too many physical books made with real paper. I do have an iPad which I do occasionally read books on. I was shocked when I went to read a book from Oyster. They are shut down. Oyster was the Netflix for books. You pay a monthly fee and you could read as many books as you like. Once you added a book in your library it was yours. Now it is gone. I liked it because they often carried books that I could not find in my local library.

I'm still reading from my to-read collection, however some books I thought I wanted to read just don't interest me right now. I don't know why I selected them but they will have to do.

The illustrations are some of my previous work.

Daily Face: February 9th

Lately my daily morning meditation has been lacking. The cold mornings make me want to linger in the bed. It's too cold to run at 5 a.m. and doing an Insanity or P90X workout doesn't make me excited to start the day.

Daily Face: February 8th

I am face with so many Goliath's. I am trying to do as the Bible says "take no thought for tomorrow" Matthew 6:34. It is hard to keep my mind from slipping into what might happen or how will I handle it. I tell myself think only about what you need to accomplish today and I make it through another day

Friday was extremely busy.

Literary Friday: The Magicians

Literary Friday: The book that I have been reading this week is "The Magicians" by Lev Grossman. I chose this book because NPR touted it as Harry Potter for grown-ups. It could have been a wonderful fantasy, however the only thing that makes it grown-up are the intimate scenes and obscene language, which I don't think any deceit adult would use. I wish they would put a rating on books so I would know that it is something I don't want to read.
The author seem to take things from Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia and married them into his story. This is actually a series but I think I'm going to stop at book one.

Daily Face: February 4th

I have a weekly schedule for my art work which goes like this:
Sunday: Sunday Face, What to Wear

I don't accomplish this all of the time, but at least it gives me a goal to work towards.

Daily Face: February 3rd

My computer was on sick leave yesterday so I didn't get to post my illustration. I could have posted from my phone, but I just love the feeling of sitting at my desktop in my studio/office. What would we do without our computers and smart phones?  I often wish that the internet was available when I was a young stay-at-home mom in the early 80's.

Daily Face: February 1st

This student is similar to January 28th because they are twins.
I took some of my drawings to have them printed out. The young lady who was working in that department liked my art work and gave me a flyer to enter into the art exhibit March 12. She is a art student here at the university. I was flattered that she admired my work. Here are few that I had printed.
