SYF: Playing with Markers

"Looking for brighter days"
Playing with markers at my desk. The schools are testing so I have less children coming to clinic. The first two portraits are on sheets of art paper. The third one is in drawn in my moleskine. All of the lines are counting days. The inspiration came from Andrea Hubner photos.

Literary Friday: To-Read List Book

This has been sitting on my to-read shelf for a while. I finally picked it up and started to read it. It's quite good and funny so far. Let's hope the story telling will be just as good at the end.
(Excerpt from Goodreads) Magazine writer and editor Lori Tharps was born and raised in the comfortable but mostly White suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she was often the only person of color in her school and neighborhood. At an early age, Lori decided that her destiny would be discovered in Spain. She didn't know anyone from Spain, had never visited the country, and hardly spoke the language. Still, she never faltered in her plans to escape to the Iberian Peninsula.

At its heart, this is a love story. It is a memoir, a travel essay, and a glimpse into the past and present of Spain. As humorous and entertaining as such favorite travel stories as "Under the Tuscan Sun," this book also unveils a unique and untold history of Spain's enduring connection to West Africa. "Kinky Gazpacho" celebrates the mysticism of travel and the joys of watching two distinct cultures connect and come together.

When I go to estate sales I often would prefer to just dig up a couple of plants from the yard. Sometimes I just walk through the gardens and look at all of their beautiful plants.

Playing Around in Rendr Sketchbook

I purchased a Rendr sketchbook a couple of years ago to see if it could truly take any medium without bleeding through. These are two watercolors I painted.

What's Blooming & New Terrarium

Clematis
I was so excited that my Clematis bloomed this year. Last year it did nothing. I also had a different species of potted Phlox that bloomed.

The beautiful glass terrarium came from an estate sale. I couldn't believe when the owner said ten dollars. The original price tag of $239 was still on it. The coleus is an experiment. I read that if you brought it indoors and put it in a south facing window that it would survive the winter. It did. My hopes are to turn it into a topiary like this one found at flickriver.com.

Thank you Lord, for good days.

Today I had a final exam. I thought that I was going to make a low score, because I did not study properly. I really didn't want to mess of my A. I'm happy to say I passed with a 98. I surprised myself.

I love the way this little guy's head is tilted.
Today I had our neighborhood meeting at my house. It was fun. I forgot to take photo's.
I met a neighbor who is in her 80's and use to paint and sell her art. When she came in and sat down she stated that she loved my painting over the fire place. When I told her I painted it, she told me how much she use to love painting. I got her number. I hope to get together with her and talk about painting. She said she stopped painting when her husband died five years ago.
My painting over my fire place is an abstract of the Bible story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego with Christ in the fiery furnance (Daniel 3).

Happy April Fool's Day!
I remember growing up that we always like to play pranks on each other for this day. Children don't seem to enjoy this day as much as we use to.
