My Thrift Store Finds

Digging for treasures
I love to go thrifting. It's the art of finding that treasure at a very low cost. Sometimes nothing calls me to take it home and then there are days when everything is calling. However deciding what really needs to go home and what doesn't is the hard part. I don't believe in clutter therefore it must have a purpose. My most recent adventure lured me into buying Christmas décor. As I stated before in a previous post. I walk around and take pictures then I decide what to take home. Here are a few of my thrift store photos:
Jewelry Cabinet $34 "New"

Silverware Cabinet $59. I regretted not buying this. Someone else purchase it.

2 B & W Prints $39 each

This is what I came home with for Christmas.

I actually had been eyeing bank for weeks.

My daughter always wanted one

Jewelry cabinets usually run around $75 at thrift stores.

AEDM- DAY 10 - The Pen Process

When I draw my student portraits I draw in ink only, no pencil. I do this to better my skills, usually I can make it on the first try, but sometimes I just can't seem to capture them. This young man is one subject that took 3 tries to get it right.

Eyes and head wrong

This one is just right
I thought that I would get to post a pic on Saturday, But my family had other ideas for my Saturday.  I only had time to think about art.

AEDM Day 8 - Red Shoes

I've been wanting to draw this little pic, but I didn't get the perspective I wanted. It should be looking from the shoe up. So I'll try it again, but for now it's my entry for Art Everyday Month.

AEDM Day 7 - Woman on a Bridge

I really want to create masterpieces, however time is limited, so a simple drawing with limited color.

Dining in Blue and White

I love to have a set dining table, even if its just my family. I love Blue and White china. I have some new pieces, some antique, Spode, and Waverly. I just mix it all in. I recently had some of my Church family come to Sunday dinner.  I thought everything went great. Fun , food, and fellowship. Then we watched football. Here's a pic of table. Also a picture of my buffet.

Here are some other table settings that I like too that are not blue and white.

Pottery Barn

When I am out bargain hunting an item is not picked because it's blue and white. They have to speak to me. When I am walking around I take a photo of what called me. Then I make a choice of what I can't live without and it has to have a purpose, it cannot just be pretty but functional.

This is an ashtray, but I use it for succulent plants.

I changed the hideous shade on this lamp.

Art Every Day Month: Faces of RLA - Day 5

This year the school where I work had a name change we are no longer a Middle School, but a Leadership Academy. We have more students, so I really don't get those moments of free time to draw faces. So I made myself sit down in my new studio/office and started drawing. How I miss drawing. I've also missed participating in Creative Everyday. Since I missed the first four days I am posting more than one illustration.

My Thrift Store Style

Being the mother of 4 daughters, my sewing machine and the thrift store were staples for clothing my family. Although I no longer have to shop at the thrift store I still do. You can not believe the stuff that people give away. My background with fabrics always helps me identify quality. I just wanted to start sharing my thrift store fashion, also because my blog has been suffering.
