Book #58

So we are almost at years end and I'm attempting my goal of 60 books read for 2010. This morning I at 5am I could not get my husband out of the bed to go running so I finished reading a novel called Christmas Letters by Lee Smith. I meant to read it before Christmas. It's a collection of Christmas letters spanning three generations.
I'm sure that you've probably received one of those end-of-the-year summaries. I tend not to like these letters because everything sounds so perfect and I don't know about your life but mine can get pretty messy and I feel like a hypocrite if I only report the good stuff, especially when there's so many other things are pressing on my heart. I know that everyone will say but who wants to hear about your child struggling in school and the expensive tutors and all the parent involvement is not helping and how your child's self esteem is lowering because they are trying. No one wants to hear that.
I actually liked the book and all of the letters were not "my family is perfect and yours is not." It was a little corny but I'm okay with corny. I have 1 more book to go and I will finish reading Revelations on the 31. I always read through the entire Bible every year and I count it as 1 book which will give me a total of 60. I haven't decided what my goal for 2011. I usually try to do an increase but I don't know if I can make it to 65.

AEDM - Snow is in the Air

I've been watching the news of all the snow up north. I'm sure they are tired of it but I love snow and I am currently snow starved here in the south. We had a little on Christmas Day but enough to play in. I'm originally from up north and spent a couple of years in Colorado so I think winter means snow. I use to love to be out in the fresh brisk snow air.

Creative Everyday Challenge - Air

Christmas is in the Air I love Christmas time. I just wish that retailer's would wait for the week of Thanksgiving before they start pushing Christmas on us, this year they started before Halloween. We went shopping and they were playing Christmas music, I just tried to ignore it. But now it's Christmas time. I visited one of my most favorite stores after Thanksgiving "Pottery Barn" I fell in love with this ribbon Happy Holidays that is wrapped around the tree.

Creative Everyday - You could Smell the Rain in the Air.

I love the smell of fresh rain in the air. Nothing smells better in the summer. I know that it is snow season but I was thinking about rain.

AEDM -How can I breath with No Air?

There are moments in life when things happen and you feel as though there is no air and you can't breathe.
I finally sat down and created a painting I like. Whenever I have time off it is so hard to get back into my regular routines.

AEDM - Woman with Red Earrings

So here is a type of version of Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer's masterworks Girl with a Pearl Earring except it is Woman with Red Earrings. I know my work doesn't compare but this is what I thought of it. I have a 16X20 copy of one of his paintings. Being the reader that I am I read the book by Tracy Chevalier which I loved. Also loved the movie with Colin Firth. I am a Historical Fiction Fan! This is my Sunday drawing for my Worship Service notes. I try to have these done before service begins because I don't want to set a bad example for my children.

AEDM - Seeing Butterflies

We have a wonderful Butterfly Conservatory in our vicinity that I love. The butterflies are free to fly and if you stand still they will land on you. Although I am off on Saturday's my day was full so as usual my creativeness had to wait for the end of the day.

IF: Sneaky

A little sister can be very sneaky when she wants to hug her brother who is non compliant. A quick little drawing for Illustration Friday - Sneaky.

Thursday morning my husband and I will be running in the ATL Half-Marathon and after that I will probably just relax.

AEDM - Work in Progress

So here is my work in progress. I want to do a collection of converse sneakers. Too busy to finish anything today. We had to go to IB Open House. My youngest daughter will be entering High School next year and I feel like we are sending her to college. Schools are testing for entrance in 2011. I miss the simple days when everyone went to the same High School.

AEDM - Lady in the Grass

So I've been doing my housework in the morning before I go to work, so my creativeness has to come at the end of day after everyone has been chauffeured and fed. I wish I could hire a maid. So now at 9:30pm I've finally finished work on Lady in the Grass. I had to leave it alone because sometimes as much as you try you can't work thru it.

AEDM - Bus Ride

I worked on this for several hours. I was attempting to have the same strokes in the coat on her face. It's still not what I was hoping to for. More practice needed.

IF: Burning - A Sad Disturbing Story

Things like this I usually just keep in my journal but this is so disturbing everyone needs to know. This week in the New York Times there was a story about Afghan women who set themselves on fire trying to commit suicide. It made me very emotional to think that a woman's life would be better if she set herself on fire and died. Life is not always beautiful. I do not want to close my eyes and forget about others in the world and I wonder WHY?. Let's pray for a better world for everyone. To read the story go here:New York Times www.nytimes.com/2010/11/08/world/asia/08burn.html?_r=1&am...

Fall Harvest at My Home

Welcome to my home. I love autumn. Join me as it spreads. In the Foyer. In the Living Room. Art Closet. In the Dining Room. The Home Office and In the kitchen among the pheasants.

AEDM - Converse Love

I love my Converse All Stars. For a long time I admired them on everyone else. My teen thought I was just trying to be young, but I had to explain to her that these were out when l was young. So who cares what young people think I purchased 2 pair.

AEDM - Face 23 Daydreaming

I use to avoid putting facial features on my art because they looked cartoonist which is not what I was attempting. I've been challenging myself to not give up and put more detail into my faces.

AEDM- Wedding Day Blues

This is not my best work. I'm currently in a slump. On your wedding day you may get cold feet about what you are getting into, bcause you really don't know what to expect. I got married at a young age and I'm happy to announce that it has been 28 years that we have been together on October 29th. I still feel like we still have so much to share together.

AEDM - Two Sisters

Today I enter in Art Everyday Month. So I am a day behind and I am not feeling very creative today. This is all that was in me, a drawing I did in my sketchbook last year. Today I added color.

Face 21 - Inheriting Grandmothers Necklace

When a Grandparent passes away its nice to have something other than memories to hold to. My grandmother was a quilter which was something she taught me to do. I also have some of her handmade quilts.

Face 20 - Acting Hood

I don't understand young African Americans with both parents at home living in a nice suburban home want to act like they are from the hood.
