IF: Chicken - Dinner is served

My submission for Illustration Friday's word of the week "chicken." I wanted to depict one of my favorite chicken stories about how my parents took us down south to visit our grandparents for the summer. We were northern city kids and not use to a farm and farm food. The first time we saw our grandmother ring the chickens neck we were horrified. The chicken was running around with no head. "Chicken comes from the grocery store was our reply when we saw fried chicken at the dinner table." My sisters and I refuse to eat. Well after a couple of weeks you really start to get hungry and knowing that your parents would not be back until summer break is over you decide to eat it.
Well that was a lot to depict so I decided to do this chicken serving dinner.

Yeah I remember going into our next door neighbours back yard when they were beheading chickens when I was about 4 or 5, totally traumatised! Love your chicken though, looks very pleased.

I have never had that chicken experience, but my mom had as a kid and she still won't eat chicken! He is adorable!

I LOVE your portraits of women-- I think Snow is in the Air is my favorite-- just beautiful!!

Thank you Kylie, Neverblueagain and Krista for your comments. I usually don't do animals, so this was a departure from doing human faces.

Nice to see the chicken had the upper hand so to speak, in your picture. I love him. I never saw , But my nan used to carry around chicks in her apron, so cute. But my mum told me they still managed to land on the table when they were older. Bummer.
Love my iphone too. I managed to save mine after it got wet...phew with silica packs. ( check out my previous post. )

The chicken was good! Today we call it organic since it was cage-free. I miss those days in the country.
