Literary Friday: Doubled Booked

It's Literary Friday and I am doubled-booked for this week of reading I chose Mr. and Mrs. Prince the true story of a remarkable pre-Civil War African-American family, as well as the challenges that faced African-Americans who lived in the North versus the slaves who lived in the South. Mr. and Mrs. Prince moved out of slavery to owning their own land. Lucy Prince was the first African-American Poet. Abijah Prince served in the French and Indian War. They own land when people of their race in the south and north were still slaves.
Reading about slavery is always hard, so I chose a mystery to go along with it, called Niceville by Carsten  Stroud. Something is wrong in Niceville, evil lurks. It begins with the disappearance of a young boy.  who literary vanishes in front of surveillance camera while looking through a mirror.

The Process of a Painting with Paper 53

This is a portrait of a young lady with beautiful chocolate skin. I just wanted to show what it looks like as I paint on my iPad. I didn't think about it until I had almost finished her face. Next time I hope to show more steps. Click on picture for larger view.

Daily Face: January 29th

It was a good day. I looked through a garden magazine today and it made me long for a day of gardening and playing in the dirt. It showcased many garden objects from junk finds.  My prayer is that God will bless me and keep me that I can play in my back yard this year.

SYF-Portrait Paper 53

Here is a portrait I did using my iPad and paper 53 app. I have a easel and paint area set up, but having the time to dedicate to real paint is not there. So I will keep practicing in this manner. I loved this little girl with her black and white coat, I asked was it okay to draw her, she agreed. I decided to paint her instead.

Daily Face: January 28th

Today was a good day. Sometimes the lines from the next page shows through when I use my copic markers. I wish this was high quality paper but it is not.

Daily Face: January 26th

It was finally warm enough to run this morning, 39 degrees. It felt great to be back out a with the moon shining in the sky.
The morning run put the day on the fast track.
It felt so good to be home at the end of the day.
My husband and I ate dinner, while watched Oblivion with Tom Cruise. (It was actually a very good movie). Empty nester life!
Then it was study time for me and he went to Bible College.
It's suppose to rain in the morning so no running.

Daily Face: January 25th

For a Monday, it was a good day.

Visit to Warm Springs

I went to Warm Springs to eat at the Bulloch House, which serves southern food. The original house was burned down last year. They relocated into another building which is still part of the Historic town. The food was delicious, the biscuits were almost as good as my grandmothers. I requested jelly because that is the only way we ate our grandmothers biscuits. My grandmothers jelly was home made. I'm  sorry to say that theirs was not but it did not take away from the biscuit.
After eating we walked into each of the little shops. One shop had my favorite blue and white china. Another shop had very unique lamps made from recycled parts. While walking from shop to shop I espied a little walk way with pavers, which would be a nice touch for a garden.

Daily Face: January 22nd

Today I had an audit at work. Inspector was impressed with my organization. The day was SLOW! I had an opportunity to read. Hoping for some snow tonight.

Literary Friday: Currently Reading

Literary Friday -The book I chose to read this week is called Amped by Daniel H. Wilson. I read his Sci-fi book Robopocalypse which I chose because of the title.
In Amped people are implanted with devices to help cure medical deficiencies, but as a result they become the strongest and smartest people. Pure humans become afraid of them and began to make laws against anyone who has a device. The plot is good but the profanity drops it down two stars for me.

Daily Face: January 21st

I really want to paint, but I just can't seem to find the extra time. I am grateful for my little calendar because at least I draw something.
When things slowed down at work I started to doodle, but I slipped back into my old ways, it was not in my sketchbook. I'm going to have to retrain myself.

No Clothes Buying Update

I came across this wonderful website called Style We I love their clothes, they are so me. The shorter dresses would have to be worn as a shirt but I love them. If I could buy something from them right now I would splurge on the green coat which is vintage and modern.

Daily Face: January 20th

My life consist of school, work, school. work. My sisters in Christ and friends are going on an eating out trip to an historic town on Saturday. I want to go, but I also want to stay home. I can't decide.

Daily Face: January 18th & 19th

I have two desk calendars, one for work which I illustrate my student portraits on, the other calendar is on my studio desk. I use it to for student portraits when we have no school, and to doodle on.

Sunday Face: January 17th

Trying to keep my promise to myself and post my Sunday Face. This is from my daily bullet journal this year. Instead of having several journals that I keep up with I've combined them.

Show Your Face:Paper 53 and Love

Show Your Face: If you look at picture you can see the shadow of her eyes through shades.
I love painting on my iPad. I can sit with my husband in the den while he watches shows that make him laugh and I don't have to worry about spilling paint or making a mess. I can be in the zone with him beside me.

Daily Face: January 18th

Although I didn't have to go to work today I still did a student portrait.

Literary Friday

I am currently reading How I Came to Sparkle Again by Kaya McLaren. The title may fool you, Sparkle is a ski town in Colorado. I am on page 94, so far its okay but the writer likes to use profanity. I just never understand why an educated person cannot use more of their word knowledge to convey a point other than profanity. I would like this book a lot more if she could of use wit instead of cursing.
I am currently on a no book buying challenge for 2016. Currently I have not purchased any books, but I am keeping a list of books I would like to purchase:
1. Square Foot Gardening Cookbook by Mel Batholomew
2. Learning to Live in the Now
3. The Power of Discipline by Brian Tracey

What to Wear: Casual

Dress
I have still been faithful to my challenge to see how long I can go without purchasing new clothes. The drawing is of what I wore for a casual day. I love this vintage jacket.
I spotted this dress and housecoat that I would have purchased if I could shop.

Show Your Face: Eyes

On the Show Your Face challenge the focus is still on eyes. I seem to have a tendency to draw them very large. I did this portrait of my niece on Paper 53 with my iPad, which although it might seem simple requires a lot of time on my part. Everything I have learned has been self taught. Try it for yourself and see what you can do.

No Clothes Buying Update

I found another wonderful blouse that I would have purchase today. It's navy and white. I wanted to throw in the towel and just buy it but I took a picture instead.
So far it has been 15 days of no buying clothes or books. I seem okay with the books because I have enough unread books to last for a year, but clothes on the other hand is a different story. Why do we never have enough?

Daily Face: January 14th

Glad it's Friday.
Here is a line from a movie I watched called Leonie."Even though everything seems lost, the future remains." I like the thought of that.
This is a portrait of one of my favorite students. When she entered the six grade it was not so, we bumped heads. She is a eighth grader now and today I learned that she transferred. I did nor get a chance to wish her farewell.

Daily Face: January 12th

I'm back in school for Spring Qtr. I'm only taking one course this time but it's Mon. - Thurs. form 8:30 - 11:00 a.m. Which means I get to work late and I have to stay late to cover time I'm not there. Thankful that my Principal is letting me do this. I hope I'm up for the challenge.
If I want to get some good running miles in I'll have to get out a little earlier. Currently it's been below freezing here when I normally go running and my husband does not like to get out when its that cold.

No New Clothes 2016

Progress Scale
11 / 365

This is my progress for No New Clothes. It's a little harder than I expected for the first 11 days. Since I can't buy anything so I'll just take a picture of what I wanted to buy. This black and white shirt would have been a nice addition.

Sunday Face: January 10th

When its the Lord's Day, Rejoice and be glad in it!

I had actually changed outfits after drawing this picture.
