Calendar Drawing 2024

It has been such a long time since I posted any of my art work. I have continued to draw my daily face, I just haven't had the opportunity to post. 

I thought that when we became empty nesters that my life would give me more free time but that has not been the case.

I'm hoping that in 2024 I will be carve out time for me.

Limiting Color Palette

 I'm trying something new, limiting my color palette for my illustrations. I'm not sure how long it will last, hopefully, I can stick it out for 30 days. Here is what I have done so far. Click on pictures to see larger view.

Red Did Not Listen

 Were you like Little Red Ridinghood and just had to step outside of the boundaries of what your mother said? 

Did curiosity or forgetfulness get the best of you before you realized maybe mother was right?

Hopefully, we all learned from our mistakes, and the next time we gave her warning a little more thought.

Bike Love

Growing up having a bike was everything. My bike was blue with a sparkingly white seat.
One year my bike was stolen because I failed to put it back in the basement at the end of the day. I came home and left it in the backyard.

Looking down from my bedroom window I cried and cried, why didn't I listen to my parents. When my friends came to get me after school I couldn't go. No riding to the park or library. No riding down steep hills, no discovering new neighborhoods. I thought if I stared enough at the place where I left it, it would reappear.

My dad came to my rescue after letting me suffer for a while. We went to Two Guys, a department store in New Jersey. Not only did I get a new bike but so did my sisters. I picked out a 3-speed gold bike with a gold sparkling seat. It was the best day ever. I made sure to always put my bike away at the end of the day.

Remembering that story brings back such a precious time, as children we were free to ride and explore.

Sunday Face: July 8th

I haven't posted a Sunday Face in such a long time. It's from my journal containing my notes from today's sermon, what I wore and a face. Also some personal note, which I blurred out. I made some changes with photoshop in the larger illo.

My Progress: No Buying of Clothes and Books

I have been too busy to think about buying more clothes. I'm not really a mall shopper either which helps me stick to my goal.

Books on the other hand is another matter. I can never have too many physical books made with real paper. I do have an iPad which I do occasionally read books on. I was shocked when I went to read a book from Oyster. They are shut down. Oyster was the Netflix for books. You pay a monthly fee and you could read as many books as you like. Once you added a book in your library it was yours. Now it is gone. I liked it because they often carried books that I could not find in my local library.

I'm still reading from my to-read collection, however some books I thought I wanted to read just don't interest me right now. I don't know why I selected them but they will have to do.

Sunday Face: January 17th

Trying to keep my promise to myself and post my Sunday Face. This is from my daily bullet journal this year. Instead of having several journals that I keep up with I've combined them.

Show Your Face: Eyes

On the Show Your Face challenge the focus is still on eyes. I seem to have a tendency to draw them very large. I did this portrait of my niece on Paper 53 with my iPad, which although it might seem simple requires a lot of time on my part. Everything I have learned has been self taught. Try it for yourself and see what you can do.

Christmas Doodle

 I took a Moleskine to work today with the hopes that if I had in opportunity to doodle that I would pick it up instead of a piece of scrap paper. This is what I drew. I was able to make a little Christmas Doodle.             Here are a few of the previous sketches in it

I was wondering if I should add a background color, but I chose to go with white. Then I thought I should have drew in a some buildings or scenery but I ran out of time.

Rain Rain Go Away - Sketchbook #3

In life we only want the beautiful, sun-shiny days. We would rather not have long rainy days. Oh sure we don't mind a few hours of rain, but let it rain for a week. Everyone will start to complain.
This is how we are in life also, a few hardships and we are ready to complain. But if we endure we will see the rainbow. So be in the moment. Let it rain, it will pass.

What, Another Sketchbook

So it's official I can't help myself. I found this daily devotional book which I could not resist from purchasing. I love the color and engraving carve into leather. My purpose was to draw in it. Hoping that the devotional topic would be the inspiration for the drawing. I love people who can stick to drawing in one sketchbook everyday until completed, but I've found out that I am not that type of person. Eventually my journals get completed. So I am going to do me!

Daily Face: July 29 and Thrifted Art Supplies

I went to the thrift store today and found this unused art paper. I could not pass it up it is Strathmore 11"x 14" Bristol Vellum, Bristol Smooth, and Tracing Paper, also new markers. I don't know what I will do with the tracing paper, it may come in handy someday. It was cheap.

Daily Face: May 6th & Fabriano Challenge

A very uneventful day. Had a great morning run, work was the usual. I was so excited about adding another illustration in my Fabriano Sketchbook Gray-scale challenge and it came out hideous. I really don't like it. I tried to fix it but to no avail it does not speak to me. Then I had the dilemma of, do I really want to show something I don't like? Finally I decided to show it anyway. Hopefully it will make me become a better artist. I actually have a blog were I show my unwanted art called Fourborne Days of Art.
