Drawing in my Moleskine

Revisiting Danny Gregory's book Everyday Matters I decided to draw what was before me. Here are a few illustrations from moleskine. It is different views in our family room. I've only colored one using Photoshop for now I think I'll let them stay color free since I'm working on just drawing.

Sketchbook Sunday

Today was Friends & Family Day at the Church of Christ. A day of worship, fellowship and food. It was a great day. I  wore my gray dress with a black lace cover up, it is the same length as my dress. The sermon was very good, Are You in the Lord's Army? As you can see from my journal there were a lot of scriptural references, can you believe that I actually missed some of them.

Sketchbook Friday and EDM: Scissors

I decided to draw in my moleskine I purchased a year ago, but put  away because I was dissatisfied with the quality of paper. I thought if I would buy the heavyweight paper that it could stand up to the copic markers, but it does not, I get bleed thru. I purchased some gelatos, no bleed through, but I still want to use my copic markers too.
I drew my desk scissors, I keep my good scissors hidden away so that only I can use them. My children see these on my desk and grab them, instead of looking in the drawers.

CED: Transitioning Girls

Illustration A
Being the mother of four girls I know about transitioning. When your daughters think they are older and ready to transition into young ladies. I remember when I was sixteen, I thought I was such a grown-up and new what was best for me. NOT! However when we are young we think we have experienced enough of the world to make choices. As I was drawing these pictures this is what came to mind.(ill. A)When your daughter thinks she is old enough to wear really high heels. For me it was my 8th grade. (ill. B) When you know that your husband is not going to approve of the hotty shorts, that your daughter is trying to convince you to buy. When I was 18 I had some really short shorts, that I would totally disapprove of now as mom. (ill. C) When your mother tries to dress you in something you hate. I never disapprove of any of the clothing my mother purchased, but I hated the way she would style my hair.

Practicing and drifting back into old ways

I decided to began to practice the art of detailed drawing again. How long will it last?, I do not know. But I let myself drift back into my old ways. The two drawings I've posted are not in my sketchbook, but on old scrap paper from 2004 about asbestos hazards from our school district. The sad thing about it is that I really like these drawings and wish they were in my sketchbook. So I must commit to the sketchbook.

IF: Red

My submission for Illustration Friday, the word is red.
I have been drawn to the gazelle I don't know why, but I want to draw them with clothing. I hope to draw more of these.

Sketchbook Sunday: March 23

Click picture for larger view
I wanted to share what my actual Sunday Journal page. We go to worship service every Sunday and we also attend evening service. Usually the illustration of the woman has on the clothing that I wore that day. My notes are the scripture references from the sermon. The "What's On your Mind" is usually whatever is on my mind before the sermon starts, just to clear my head and focus on worshipping. The Inspiration can be a Bible verse, something from sermon or on this page a song. The ribbon with the tag has our current memory work for Wednesday Night Bible Study, you have to know it because the teacher may call on you to quote it.

Spinning Around in My Studio Chair

video
I have a bigger art space, this is me twirling in my chair looking at my beautiful light that travels where ever I go. I paid $3.95 for it in Colorado when we live there. The music is from Michael Nyman's "The Piano" soundtrack. You may have to turn the volume up.
I can't remember the last time I did this, but I was very dizzy when I stopped, lol!

Sketchbook One: Auburn Fans

Although we live in Georgia my daughter and I are Auburn Fans! Go Tigers! We were so excited about the 2014 Championship Game. We had several friends over to watch the game. You can imagine the huge disappointment we faced when they lost at the very end. Maybe 2015 will be our year. My other football teams are Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers.

Words Can Be Like Knives

I love this song from Stateless.  One day the lyrics about words being like knives prompted me to draw this. It is the darker side of me. Which I didn't know was there.

Imitation the Highest Form of Flattery

There are so many artist I admire and imitation is the highest form of flattery. I love Karin Jurick. She has the most amazing art work. I attempted to paint like her but I am way off. I tried to do an African American version of one of her paintings.

Literary Friday: All Our Names

I am starting to read All our Names by Dinaw Mengestu. I've never heard of him before selecting his  book. It sounds like it could be interesting.

CED: Transition

Hey Diddle Diddle the cat and the fiddle, the cow jumped over the moon. Hey! This cow didn't transition very well.
This is one of my favorite nursery rhymes. I even have some book ends in my office/studio depicting it.
This illustration is a copy of Sandra Boyton. When I first got married in the 80's I had this calendar with her drawings and I fell in love with this illustration. Well as you know life has a way of letting things slip away. One day as I was decluttering some old papers I came across this illustration. A flood of memories came back. It made me smile. I still think this is so funny and so true. Sometimes when we are trying to jump the moon, it's not as simple as everyone makes it out to be.

Sunday Face

Just a Sunday drawing. I really like the look on her face.

How do you paint dreads?

Here's a sketch I did of a student a couple of years ago, I attempted a colored version, but the hair looks like a woman. This student is a boy with dreads, a popular athlete. I really like the pencil drawing.
