Viewing Art

We recently went to the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and viewed the Toulouse-Lautrec and Friends: The Stein Collection and Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Modern Century. My husband, two teenage daughters and nephew went with me. We all enjoyed the exhibitions. However something happen to me that has never happened before. I suffered from what I guess was vertigo. We were on the top floor and decided to go down the ramp. My head started to spin and I became very anxious. I thought is was just a fluke, I mentioned it to my husband and he told me to just look down, but I couldn't. I became panic stricken, my children thought I was joking but I froze. My head was spinning so badly. My husband took me back up, because we were closer to top than bottom. This experience really freaked me out. I the person who has to convince the rest of my family to ride roller coasters. I don't know what this really was.

We also went on an Art Walk in Columbus, Georgia to view the works of Bo Bartlett. This is a multi-venue event. Most art walks I've been to highlight different artist, but this one showcase just Bo's works. It was beautiful. This has been the best art walk I've ever attended. His journals were on display and you could actually pick them up and view them. At one venue there is a autobiography of his life using his paintings narrated by the artist. I was so impressed with all of his journals. The dedication it takes to write about your life almost everyday.

I've always attempted to keep a journal but some years I may only have a few entry's. This Art Walk was so inspiring. If you get a chance it will continue until April 23, 2011 in Columbus, Georgia. Contact CSU Department of Art for more info. Guided tours 706-507-8312.

IF: Toy

Here's a little painting I did some months ago but I am submitting it for Illustration Friday word of the week "Toy." The toy is not as obvious but she has her toy bunnies on the bench, one is pink and one is brown. I had a stuff giraffe that was my favorite soft toy, but my all time favorite was my barbie.

Currently Reading & Devastation

I am currently reading 2 books Dear James and Prayers for Sale. Prayers for Sale has been more interesting so I've been reading it more. The story takes place in the high country of Colorado during the Great Depression. A young woman named Nit Spindle has suffered a great lost and comes to the house with a sign posting "Prayers for Sale." Hennie Comfort an eighty-six year old widow owns the house with the sign. She prays the prayer that Nit has requested and becomes interested in this young woman. They form a bond despite their age difference. Hennie shares stories about her life, hardships and secrets, I haven't finished it yet but I hope to finished it this week.
My beloved Books-a-Million is closing where I live. They lost the lease on the building. They do not have a new location or any idea if they are going to relocate. My husband and I were devastated. There is a Barnes & Noble here but its not an a convenient place. We have always been loyal to BAM. All of the store clerks know us, the barista's start our coffee when they see us get out of the car. I am really going to miss this store. Books and coffee, two loves of my life.

CED: Nest

A couple of months ago I did a painting with a similar lady and butterfly. I love the colors so I tried to capture it again. So can there be such a thing as a nest of butterflies? Click image for full view.

IF:Cultivate

It's been awhile since I've submitted for Illustration Friday. I've tried to cultivate to being a more green person. As I slowly make changes it makes you more aware of how much further you need to go. And then there are the people who just don't get it. I shop at the Military Commissary, so I went in with all of my recyclable green bags, do you know that the baggers were putting my groceries in plastic bags and placing them in my green bags. I had to make them stop using the plastic. I couldn't believe that they didn't get it.

Finally - A few Sketches

I'm finally posting sketches from my sketch book. I can't seem to get back in the grove of my art.
My multi-hat wearing is keeping me from being inspired. I purchase 2 magazines "Where Women Create" and "Artful Blogging to get me jump-started.

CED - I've Been Missing You

Sorry I've been away for so long. I run a small decluttering business and lately my business has picked up. One more thing to keep me away from creating. However I do love to help people put order back in their lives. I guess in a way its creating. When you look at the pictures you may say they just need to clean up, but clutter can slowly creep up on you and then it becomes so over-whelming you don't know where to began. I thought this would be appropriate for the theme nest. Here are a few before and after pictures of different clients.
There is a chair under the clutter

Hopefully I get back to art soon and reading. I'm so far behind my reading schedule. When I get home I'm so exhausted I can't focus to read. I did finish The Dark Lantern, it wasn't very good until the end.
